Fellowes 32057 Description

The P-57Cs from the house of Fellowes has come up with a SafeSense technology which has a well deserved patent pending. The technology features an active sensor which stops shredding as soon as someone touches the paper entry. Made for light duty office or home use, the machine is capable of shredding 8 paper sheets at a time and reduces the document to a size of 5/32x2 inch with a secured confetti cut. The highest daily capacity of the machine is 160 sheets of paper i.e. 10-20 times a day. It has a 9 inch wide space for paper entry and has an auto start/stop function that enables auto shredding. It is capable of shredding standard legal sized documents and also accepts staples and credit cards thanks to its durable steel cutters. For non-shredded material to be disposed the shredder is open in the front and the users are capable of viewing the 5-gallon waste basket whenever it is full. The P-57Cs has a warranty of 3 years and comes with a sheet capacity gauge which prevents paper jamming. The reverse action is capable of removing any jammed paper!

Summary: Exactly what I need - shuts off when cats paws touch!!

Edit: 3/3/09

As some people seem to want to assume that I stuck my cat's paw in the actual shredder itself to test the shredder, let me state my exact "experiment" for sake of clarity and so that (oddly challenged) people don't need to worry themselves over the safety of my cat. (If you knew me, you would know how ridiculous it is to think that I would endanger any of my 'children.' I go without certain things so that my kids can eat the best food on the market.)

My first step was to touch the sensitive area of the shredder with the palm of my hand. Next, I ran the tips of my fingers over the entire sensitive area. Last, I took one of my three cats, the one who is so agreeable and calm that you can tickle his paws (not many cats let you touch their paws) and sat him in my lap. I tickled his paws, saw that he was calm, and gently lowered one of his paws toward the furthest part of the sensitive area of the shredder. As he didn't pull back or try to jump out of my lap I assumed him still to be calm, and brushed his paw against that furthest part of the sensitive area. When the orange light indicating 'auto-off' went on, I considered this safe for my cats, and set my cat safely on the ground.

Don't you feel a bit safer knowing that a cat's paw touched the sensitive area of the shredder and that the shredder recognized the cat's paw? Silly me, *I* did.

For additional reassurance, I would not have conducted this experiment with either of my two other cats. They might have freaked out and might have been injured, and god forbid that would happen. My cats and my dogs are my children and I would never do anything to them that would place them in harms way.

Some people enjoy assuming the absolute worst about others. I don't quite understand that.

--------

I've had this for about a month now, and I use it daily. So far, everything has worked better than expected. There haven't been any issues with any part of the device, and the shredder does indeed handle 8 sheets without trouble.

I'm the kind of person that likes to leave things on. My computer stays on 24/7 because I don't want to be bothered with waiting for it to reboot. Same goes for the printer. I just don't want to stand up, lean over to the printer, and press the ON button. Undoubtedly, this is not energy conscious, and in every other aspect of my life I *am* energy conscious. Anyway...

So I like to leave my shredder on too. Even if I didn't, the chances of me forgetting to turn it off are very high. The first thing I did when I tested this unit was to *VERY CAREFULLY* brush the metal lip with the paw of one of my cats, and was extremely happy to see the orange light go on - which means that the unit has disabled.

I'd read one too many forwarded e-mails about cat's paws somehow being caught in paper shredders NOT to have this in my house. I'm delighted to report that it works as advertised.

Summary: Fellowes Paper shredder

A few years ago my wife purchased a paper shredder at one of the office supply stores for home use. Needless to say it lasted a couple of years and was not that good . This paper shredder does a wonderful job and I expect to get many years out of it. Both paper shredders were about the same amount of money and claimed to do the same. However I believe this one to to of much better quality

The Shredder works as advertised, and is not too noisy. You have to be some what careful not to jam it, but it will shred the listed 8 pages at a time. Overall I am quite satisfied.

A great household shredder. We went through a ton of papers that a relative had packed away in a day. Hint - go to Kroger and buy the medium garbage bags and use them for a liner. Otherwise delaing with all the shredded paper and dumping the bucket is nasty. Shredding generates a lot of white papar dust that static clings to everything.
