Summary: So Far So Good |
| |
The reason I said so far so good is because a shredder is quite unpredictable. Based on my experience, a shredder can die any time. With that said, this shredder has been working quite well for the 2 months since I started using it. The basket is big enough although one will need to take the basket out a bit and shake it from time to time, otherwise the built-in sensor will stop the shredding due to a perceived full basket while it is actually only half full. My typical shredding job can be categorized as heavy duty. A 30 gallons bagful of confetti is the norm and some time more. Had shredded credit cards, CDs, staples, light cardboard with no issue. Continous shredding( for approxiately 30 minutes ) had resulted in shredder overheat but resumed operation after it cooled down. My complaints are: (1) the feed slot design makes feeding not easy at time; (2) there is a pause between shreds if the feeding is not continous; (3) there is also a pasue between rewind and forward, presumably to avoid overheating of the motor. Overall, I am happy with this shredder and would recommend to others who are looking for a heavy duty shredding machine.

Summary: Royal 16-Sheet Cross Cut Shredder |

The shredder does a nice job and overall I am very pleased with it. The bin is very nice a holds a lot before it has to be emptied. I have shred about 4 lawn bags full of paper so far with no problems. A couple of things that I found disappointing are: 1) the advertisements said it would do staples and the instructions said to remove the staples. So far I have not removed them. 2) It seems to be a bit underpowered. I have never tried to shred 16 sheets a once, but would be surprised if it would handle 16. It sounds like it will plug at about 12 sheets. However, I have not plugged it yet.
I have a Fellows at home and use this Royal for my office. The Fellows seems to have more power, but I like the basket of the Royal. Can't beat it for the price.

This thing is hungry for junk mail. It'll gobble up those credit card applications right in the envelope they come in. You'll have no reason not to securely dispose of all of that stuff. The construction seems very solid. Mine was shipped in the retail packaging which was beat to heck when it got here, but the shredder itself was unscathed and functions perfectly. It sits on four locking casters, has some serious steel inards, and has a built in bin to catch the aftermath. Curious fingers are relatively safe as removing the bin cuts power to the unit. It's got a two prong polarized plug. The display indicates: "Ready Auto", "Forward", "Reverse", "Bin Full" and, I would imagine, some sort of jam message. Although, I doubt if you'd ever jam this thing while following the 16 sheet guideline. The display also will indicate an "Overheat" condition, but only if you're stuffing the shredder with 16 sheets at a time continuously for 10 minutes or more. Just let it cool down for 30 minutes and it's ready to go again. And for those of you who need to destroy "sensitive" data on CD or DVD, this will take care of it. Time will tell if it's going to last, but I generated three lawn bags full of shreddings the first afternoon I had this with no problem.

The shredder works great. This is my second one to purchase. My other one was knocked out in a power outage. I giv e it a 5 star rating.

This replaces an over-the waste basket shredder which had constant problems. This one is worry free. It doesn't whine. You can carry a conversation (in person, not over the phone), while shredding. A thing of beauty is a joy forever, so is a shredder that isn't loud and works.
