Summary: Very Good Purchase |
| |
I did a fair amount of research before purchasing this shredder. The child-safe finger feature was most important to me, as was the durability. After the first few uses the plastic shield inside the shredder which ostensibly guides the shredded paper into the wastecan fell off, but the functioning of the shredder doesn't seem to be affected. Aside from this minor issue, the shredder seems solidly made and has been excellent--it rarely jams and when it does it's easy to clear with the reverse feature. Its recovery time is very reasonable when you're working it hard (take a break yourself, too!). It's not as noisy as my old shredder. It is somewhat messy to empty, however, since the shreds are small, but that's a good thing when you're looking to keep identity theft at bay. I was pleased with how quickly it arrived. I would definitely purchase this shredder again for moderate household use.

Summary: Great Shredder So Far |
| |
This is my third shredder, and it's working as well as the other "heavy-duty" models I've owned. The price I paid was very competitive. It's relatively smooth. Not overly noisy. The safety turn-off feature pretty much guarantees anyone with paper-thin fingers won't shred them off. Not super-powerful, but as with any non-industrial shredder (which is practically ALL home shredders), use your common sense. When in doubt, feed fewer sheets. May take a bit longer, but you'll be glad you didn't shear gears or create an annoying jam (haven't experienced either, by the way). And as for people who have complained it doesn't shred papers into a fine-enough confetti, it's true that it may be a stretch to call 2" strips true confetti. But my papers seem to be shredded into small enough pieces to thwart everyone except for the most dedicated ID bandit. And if I really want to throw them off the trail, I split my shreddings between 2 recycling bags.

Summary: Decent Shredder for Low Cost |
| |
I bought this shredder after reading numerous reviews. It was on sale for $42 on Amazon, which was about what I was willing to spend, since I have a small home office and don't need to shred on a regular basis. I would not recommend this shredder for someone who needs to shred large amounts of paper on a regular basis. First, it does fine shredding 3 pages at a time. It is not a confetti shredder, but makes strips small enough for me to feel comfortable with the security level. The bin is solidly constructed (not sure what the prior reviewer meant who said it was wobbly -- it's made of thick black plastic, so it's not flimsy). Although the manufacturer photos make it look as though you can empty the bin by flipping the top up, that is not the case -- you can flip the top up to check the shredded paper level perhaps, but to empty it, you have to remove the shredding mechanism, which fits snugly into the bin. Because it has a shredding motor within it, it is a bit heavy (10-15 lbs.) to remove, but doable most able-bodied people. The one thing that is a little quirky is that there is a small lever inside the edge of the top part of the shredder that must fit just right onto the top edge of the bin or the shredder won't turn on -- there is a small but audible "click" when the lever inside the top half is successfully engaged. IT just means that you have to make sure to seat the top properly into the bottom bin, which isn't a big deal to me. A decent shredder for $42.

Summary: Fellowes 32057 Powershred P-57Cs Shredder |
| |
This product works well for the money. Cuts into short straight strips (not diamond cut) that should provide decent security. Grinds credit cards up easily if you make sure to put them in the center of the shredder, which seems designed to do the toughest work. I agree with others that 8 pages at once is a bit too much, more like 3 or 4. Seems to be made well, feels like a quality product. Overall, I am very happy. I recommend disabling the proximity sensor unless your small children will be playing with the shredder.
