Summary: Worth The Money
 
Royal 16-Sheet Cross Cut Shredder Bought this shredder even though it was more than I planned to spend, but was tired of shredders that quit after a few months of use. Years ago I had a $70.00 Fellows machine that quit two weeks past the warranty. I took it apart to find the PLASTIC gears had stripped. Called Fellows to try and BUY a new gear set, but was told "We don't fix THOSE (non-pro) machines". I've had 4 "Big-Box-Store" brands of shredders since (including one with "Diamond Shred") all die, usually stripped gears, although the "Diamond Shred" got a paper jam that bent a shredder wheel and proceeded to eat itself alive.
This unit has all steel gears and powers thru everything I've fed it. I've fed it junk mail without opening the envelopes, but don't really recommend that. Shreds credit cards, CDs, etc all with no problems.
Box arrived pretty beat-up, but unit was fine as it is packaged with molded styrofoam inserts. Unit ran fine from the get-go. Minor problem is occasionally unit shuts-down and flashes and beeps "Bin Full", even though it's not. Shake down or empty the bin and on it goes.

Summary: I really like this shredder
 
I was a little concerned when I received and unpacked this machine. There was a strange noise, like tumbling broken glass, whenever I moved it. I didn't see anything broken, so continued to set it up and put it to use. The machine is very quiet in operation. I haven't tried it with 16 sheets, and it does run paper through more slowly than our last machine. The "Bin full' warning is a nice feature. The machine stops, "bin full" signal flashes, it beeps, and then spits back out the paper it was working on. Time to pull out the bin, empty it, and then continue shredding. I put it through quite a test, getting rid of a box of papers I had set aside to shred, and never had a problem with it overheating or getting jammed.

I never give anything 5 stars so giving this product 4 stars means that I like it and it does what I bought it for.

I received it in a "beat-the-hell-out-of-it" box (just like another reviewer said) and pulled it out, hooked it up and started feeding it. DVD's, Credit Cards, Multiple sheets of paper at a time... (I saved up for this day!). The Royal 16-Sheet Shredder kept on eating and eating. I like the lights, the deep waste basket (deep enough for me), and the ease of operation. Basket removes easily but I need to put a plastic liner in it next time, D'Oh!

For my home office use, it's perfect and a great replacement for that POS I had before (not a Royal).

I have had this shredder for two or three years now and have had no problems with it ever. I'm kind of surprised to be saying that but it is true. My old shredder would always get jammed. This one never has had a jam or any other problem.

The shredder works great. This is my second one to purchase. My other one was knocked out in a power outage. I giv e it a 5 star rating.
