Aurora AS890C Description
This Aurora AS890C is a cross cut shredder and can accommodate 8 sheets of paper at a time. This is a heavy duty shredder that also has an appetite for staples, paper clips and credit cards. The machine has an 8.7 inch throat and featured with a heavy load basket that can accommodate 125 sheets of shredded paper. It also features auto start, overheat/overload protection and manual reverse facility for jam clearance.

Summary: great shredder
 

Bought this shredder 3-12-10, and have had no problem with it.
I have shredded 7 year's of files with ease and plastic cards.
the shredder did not jamb at all. perfect size for the home.
when you get your shredder ,take one pice of papper and put
some vegtable oil on the papper and run it thur, and go. !

I have had several shredders in the past (this is replacing my last one that the dog ate the cord)and all have been the size of a small waste basket. Not the case this time, its more like half the size of a small wastebasket. Thus it fills up quickly and I have to empty it faster than i would like. As for its claim of shredding 8 pages it did slower than i would like but it did do it.

On the plus side if you do a page at a time it is the quickest shredder I have used and to do one page at a time is faster than doing the 8 pages at once. Doing 3-4 pages at a time is no problem at all. It is slightly quieter than my previous shredder. It also looks nice as it is all black and very slick design, also there is a window that shows how full it is. After 20 minutes of use no over heating problems like my previous shredder.

I looked at lots of shredders before I made this purchase and for the price I am satisfied that this shredder is comprable to the shredders in this price range if not a higher price range.

Summary: Relieve jamming
 
I have read many reviews and I wonder if some of the problems could be resolved if after a bit if shredding, you used some 3in1 oil. Mine was not cutting well and I went on the web to look for another and noticed the ads for lubricating oil (with outragious prices). I tipped my oil can point down into the shredding teeth and ran a shot of oil the length of it. I am now using my old shredder with great results. Summary: Not a true crosscut shredder and very short life!
 
I bought this Aurora to replace one that'd stopped working from old age. They're nothing alike in quality or perfomance, this isn't a crosscut shredder - it shreds paper into medium length rectangular strips (like a straight cut shredder) which are long enough such that the right (or wrong) one can contain a full name or mailing address! It's also very poorly built - I went to lift it up and the plastic cover (over the head) came off! I have had it for less than 6 months, I'll tinker with it and try to fix it otherwise it goes into the trash and I'm back in the market for a new (and better) shredder. The noise level didn't bother me - it's a shredder it's going to be noisy...
